Per un maestro

Mi piace ricordare una passeggiata a Praga dove discutendo di teatro nacque l’idea di una mostra tematica, “virtuale” come la nominò subito il Maestro… I segreti dello spazio teatrale di Josef Svoboda testimonia un lungo rapporto di amicizia e di stima con il maestro cecoslovacco; è infatti l’ultima tappa di una serie di progetti che da quasi dieci anni ci accomunano. Risale al 1990-91 il primo incontro con Josef Svoboda, a Praga, dove ci recammo per sottoporre alla sua attenzione un progetto dal titolo I Gabinetti di ottica tra leggi fisiche e visioni dell’immaginario. Ne nacque una mostra, Lo spettacolo dell’illusione, che racchiudeva una sezione dedicata al Maestro e un lungo seminario, condotto a Modena, al Teatro Comunale, per allievi registi e scenografi, ma soprattutto si crearono allora stretti legami di intesa culturale e di amici¬zia, rafforzati poi nel corso degli anni da una profonda condivisione di comuni interessi arti¬stici, fino alla realizzazione della scenografia per lo spettacolo da noi prodotto nel 1995 Vite a scadenza da Elias Canetti, e nel 1997 in collaborazione con RAI Sat la produzione di un servizio speciale sulla vita e opera di Svoboda.
Ma ciò che mi preme in queste poche righe sottolineare è un aspetto particolare della per¬sonalità del Maestro. Mi riferisco alla sua generosità umana e artistica, alla sua attitudine alla sperimentazione e alla ricerca di soluzioni, quasi sempre illuminanti, doti queste che si tra¬ducono nella straordinaria capacità di trasmettere ai giovani non solo la propria esperien¬za, ma soprattutto il proprio entusiasmo nell’affrontare ogni volta un progetto creativo. Mi piace, ad esempio ricordare la linearità e la chiarezza dei suoi interventi in occasione di un seminario di studio svoltosi proprio a Genova e diretto agli allievi di un altro protagonista della scena, Leie Luzzati, in vista della progettazione della scenografia per Vite a scadenza: un’oc¬casione questa di confronto tra due “scuole di pensiero” assai diverse, ma anche una oppor¬tunità per i giovani partecipanti di cogliere nei due maestri la medesima passione per il tea¬tro, il medesimo stile di vita che rimanda al gusto per un intatto sapere artigianale. E anco¬ra non possiamo dimenticare l’accoglienza cordiale, al momento del primo incontro con Milena Honzikovà e Josef Svoboda, subito tradottasi in una curiosa e partecipe opera¬tività progettuale, più volte riconfermata negli anni attraverso le diverse iniziative che intan¬to andavamo mettendo in campo.
La mostra I segreti dello spazio teatrale ha il carattere di una vera e propria riflessione sull’attività di oltre mezzo secolo di uno degli scenografi più geniali della storia, e segue di qualche anno l’edizione del volume che porta lo stesso titolo pubblicato con UBU libri. Un evento culturale dunque, ma anche una testimonianza di stima, amicizia e di profonda ammirazione.
